Ferrari Mondial Interior
The Mondial 8's interior set a new standard for Ferrari luxury. Leather covered almost every surface. Wool carpeting covered most of the rest. From 1985 leather dashboard and window surround covers became optional.
The adjustable front seats in the Mondial were wide and relatively flat. Facilitated by the tall interior space, seating was considerably more upright than in contemporary two-seat cars. The rear seats on all Mondials became increasingly scooped to provide both space and support for their occupants. Rear occupants of the coupes were favoured with large and comfortable head rests.
The wide, flat dashboard swept into a rectangular instrument binnacle with a black facia containing large primary gauges, warning lights, and auxilliary gauges. Between the driver and the instrumentation was the familiar Momo steering wheel. The Mondial 8, qv and 3.2 featured large, thin section 3-spoke leather covered wheels. The modern center console contained switch gear and the traditional Ferrari shifter and gate. The doors and console both offer innovative storage compartments.
Along with a smaller steering wheel, the Mondial t gained a substantially modernised interior with larger and more usable guages and switchgear and revised seats.
The interiors of the Mondial Cabriolets were generally identical to that of the contemporary coupes. Two differences were the lack of an overhead light - replaced by a console light - and rear seat headrests which did not fold forward for safety reasons.
