Ferrari F355 Suspension
The F355's fully independent suspension was comprised of a specially designed system of unequal length non- parallel wishbones with springs and aluminum gas dampers with anti-roll bars.
The F355 suspension featured a new generation of flexible wishbone joints for greater long term durability, better control of the geometry, and enhanced driving safety.
Rigid joints and anti-roll bars with sealed spherical-head tie-rods for immediate response from the system, eliminated the uncertainties of self-balancing, particularly in response to sudden directional changes. The F355 also featured continuously variable electronic dampers with two programs tuned to sport and comfort.
Rack and pinion power steering was standard, although direct mechanical steering was available on request.
As an ultra-performance sports car, the F355 required a braking system of unsurpassed ability. Four self-ventilated discs were acted upon by 4-cylinder aluminum calipers. The standard ABS could be temporarily disabled by the driver when desired, such as on the track.
The F355's wheels are 18" with magnesium rims. These combined with the aluminum dampers, brake calipers and wheel covers to lighten the unsprung mass in a way that further enhanced roadholding and performance. The car's tires were developed in collaboration with the chosen manufacturers for even greater stability and grip without detriment to comfort, handling and safety. Particular care was taken to enhance the tires' capacity to absorb bumps in the road-surface, and over the careful design of a noise-reducing asymmetrical tread.
The limited edition Serie Fiorano had a revised suspension, identified by its lowered stance. Its brake calipers, racing pads, and cross-drilled rotors complement revised maps for the electronically-controlled shock absorbers, larger anti-roll bars, stiffer springs, and quicker steering.
