Ferrari F355 Introduction
The 1994 F355 was the culmination of Ferrari's nearly half a century of sports and racing car design. It has been called the greatest production sports car of the 20th Century. In the F355, Ferrari fused efficiency, style, beauty, luxury, and refined performance to produce a marvel.
The heart of the F355 was a 3.5 liter V8 delivering 375bhp - 109bhp per liter - using an innovative five valve per cylinder design, a transverse closely-geared 6-speed transmission, and intelligent suspension that adapts instantaneously to the driver's demands. In 1997 Ferrari introduced the F1 paddle-shifting transmission on the F355, revolutionizing sports car design and the driving experience once again, and blurring the line between road and track.
The F355 was produced in three body styles, the 1994 fixed roof Berlinetta GTB and removable hard top GTS, and the 1997 Spider, Ferrari's first electronically actuated soft top. There was, of course, also the F355 Challenge car specially modified for North America's premier single marque racing series. Finally, the F355 was produced in a 100-car limited edition called the Serie Fiorano, all spiders, almost all with the F1 paddle-shifting transmission system.
