Ferrari Enzo Styling
In styling the Enzo, Pininfarina sought design without compromise, to break away from the evolutionary approach that resulted in the the GTO, F40, and F50 by developing a new design language for the future.
Stylists and engineers created visual and technological links with the world of Formula 1 in a way never before attempted in a true road car. Rather than expressing a road car for the track, the Enzo expresses racing technology for all roads. Compactness and lightness, balance and efficiency were all achieved by eliminating the imposing aerodynamic appendages which featured on previous cars.
Advanced composite materials from which the body and chassis are formed, minimize weight and allowed forms to be hewn for a perfect synthesis between technology and styling. So complete is the integration that form not only follows function, each is an expression of the other. The result is a complex, sculpted, apparently minimalist form that can be interpreted in many different ways.
The front, with its two air intakes for the radiators and a raised central part, is an interpretation of the Formula 1 nose.
The light clusters, with their stacked bixenon modules, are highly distinctive.
The side of the Enzo contrasts the shape of the wings, flush with the outer edge of the wheels, with a narrower, convex central part, which immediately recalls the F1 "waist".
The rear seems to be driven upwards by the large aerodynamic slides which link up with the underbody. The drop-shaped roof is very compact and tapered towards the rear, respecting the rules of aerodynamic optimization.
The absence of a rear wing makes the car compact. The gull-wing doors are hinged to the roof and the fender, a reflection of famous Ferrari sports racing cars.
