Ferrari 348 Suspension
The 348's suspension had gas-filled Bilstein shock absorbers within coil springs, located by unequal length dual wishbones of pressed steel, sited between the front wishbones and above the rear wishbones. Front and rear anti roll bars ensured flat cornering. The suspension geometry provided zero offset and anti-dive and squat, as required by the standard anti-lock braking system. The 348 was the first 2-seat Ferrari to come with standard ABS, a Teves MkII system working on ventilated discs at all four wheels. A separate parking brake system was employed on the rear discs. Steering was by an unassisted rack and pinion.
North American 348s came equipped with 17" wheels and tires. The wheels were a flat-spoked, unidirectional design in matte silver modeled on the familiar five-spoked star shaped cast alloys of earlier Ferraris. The shape of the spokes helped draw hot air away from the brakes when in motion. The front wheels measure 17"X7.5", the rear wheels 17"X9". The stock front tires were size 215/50ZR17 and the rears 255/50ZR17. The 348 Serie Speciale had a rear track 50mm wider than the other 348s, giving it slightly enhanced rear stability.
The exclusively European 348 Competizione was equipped with split rim five spoke wheels. The spokes are fat and straight with a dull finish while the rims are highly polished. The front wheels were 18"X8" carrying 225/40ZR18 tires, the rear wheels were 18"X10" with 265/40ZR18 tires.
